French Scholarships

Gustave Eiffel "Excellence" grants

The Eiffel scholarship program, launched in January 1999 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is designed to bolster international recruiting by French schools of higher education, at a time when competition to attract elite foreign students is growing among developed countries.

Foreign Students are offered training in three priority areas (engineering, economics & management and law & political science). Students in education and research benefit from other programs and are not, therefore, eligible for the Eiffel Program.

The second objective of the Eiffel Program is to encourage applications from students in emerging countries, with priority to those (in Asia and Latin America, for example) currently under-represented among the student population in France.

Eligibility

Selection is to three criteria:

  • Academic excellence of applicant, as attested by achievement to date
  • International policy of center presenting the applicant, as regards prior record in the geographical region under consideration and consistency with the nomination submitted
  • Consistency with international cooperation policy of French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially as regards the priority given to emerging countries
